If you are worried about what's going on with the US economy but don't really
understand and are looking for a good place to start, this
episode of This American Life is pretty effing great. You can listen to the full
episode for free. Also for a little back story on how we got here this
one is pretty great too.

When you enjoy looking at old photos of dead people you will never know as much
as we do here at AA HQ, there's really no better place to start than the Smithsonian
Institute's Flickr Stream. You could lose a long time there wondering about what you would have looked like
a hundred and fifty years ago.

out the current show by German artist Jonathan Meese. It runs

The
Lana Show, is a fun little production put together in the closet of the
Director's
Bureau when no one else is around. It's pretty cute, especially if you like bands
like Ratatat, No Age, or Blonde Redhead. Which you probably do.

Remember how good Hall & Oates were? No? Well, remember how stange and drugged out seeming they were... Well, apparently after taking some time off someone taught Daryl Hall about the
internet and, well, things are getting nuts... Check out what happens when he
invites Chromeo over to his house...

Mike Brodie is such a bad ass, that instead of "studying" how
to be a photographer he hopped on a freight train with some squatter kids and
criss-crossed the country snapping amazing shots of down-and-out punks braving
the elements in the grarliest ways imaginable. What's more, after gathering enough speed he made his way into the art/mag
gallery set, all the while calling himself "The Polaroid Kidd." As if this weren't all cool enough, this dude doesn't even have a website.
Seriously, google him...

Edible.com is a place
you can go if you want to purchase mega-fucked up foods and have them shipped to
your house to weird out your guests. Some of our favorites are Crocodile, Scorpion,
and Giant Hornet (pictured above). Just in time for Halloween!

Here at AA HQ we have always been a little obsessed with the work of Oliviero Toscani. Along with
Tibor
Kalman he was at the head of what we think is one of the greatest magazines
to ever exist COLORS. While it's still rolling today, a lot of the best stuff can
be found in the archive here. Spend some time browsing, you won't regret it.

Ball-Nogues popped up on our radar a while back when we first saw what they were
doing with lots of string. Now they're off into other worlds of models and set design
and all sorts of modern space creation. You should enjoy their work. Find it here.

| Well, if you still have a business to ride your bike to in a few months you can thank
pork barreling for saving you a cool twenty spot. That's right, as this article details, one of the little gems tacked onto
the jillion dollar government bailout allows those using bicycles to commute to work
to bill their bosses for reimbursement up to twenty dollars a month. Think of the savings!!!

People are talking, and we are listening. Montreal's CFCF has a forthcoming
limited-edition 7'' release of You hear Colours/Invitation to Love that about to hit the
"streets" through Acephale and is already on pre-order on through CFCF's
myspace. You should definitely try to get it before it sells out. And while you're at it
you should definitely check out Mr. CFCF's musical jambaroo over at Viva
Radio. He's dreeeamy.

After spending years making chairs out of paper
artist Tokujin Yoshioka has taken things a step further by growing a chair from natural
crystals. His project,
The Venus Chair, will be headlining a show called Second Nature opening at the
21_21 Design Sight in Tokyo on Oct 17th. Pretty fantastic.
